So, I'm a runner.  I haven't exactly been keeping track of how many races I have run, but my fridge is covered in race bibs and I have a closet full of race t-shirts.  Why would a semi-organized person keep all of these t-shirts, you ask? 
If she's the crafty type, she may be promising herself and others that she will some day find a creative and appealing way to make them all into a quilt.  But she may have been promising this for years. 
A few days ago, she may have stumbled upon the answer. 
Apparently, I'm not the only one trying to make cool stuff out of t-shirts.  Craftzine.com's blog has a pretty darn cool t-shirt quilt:

And specific directions on how to do it.  I love a good tutorial, don't you?  What do you think?  Can I take stuff like this:

This is so cool.  Just go to this link, upload some of your favorite photos, print the whole mess out, and you'll end up with a cootie-catcher type paper creation that cycles through the different photos as you alter its shape.  I know, I know, my description is NOT doing it justice, so just follow the link.  If only the printers in my life were not conspiring against me, I could print out one of my own....

So I redesigned my bedroom after a particularly strong dose of HGTV viewing.  It came out all white.  It is SO not me.  But, my bedroom is a tiny, dark, nearly windowless, cave-like space that needs a lot of light colors to give it a bit of openness.  I think. 
I hung these fabulous curtains I bought at Pier 1 (don't bother looking, they have been discontinued!) to try and make it appear that the one tiny window that is 50% obscured by air conditioner is larger.

And last week, with inspiration from these perfectly pleated pillows on etsy and tons of help from this tutorial, I made a decorative pillow to try and complete the look.  I would definitely not use the words "perfectly pleated" to describe my pillow, but I'm learning, right?

My goal with the room has been to keep pretty much everything in it white or close to it, so that my end tables ($5 formerly hideous thrift store finds I painted an obnoxious shade of turquoise) can get away with existing in the space.  So, I wanted to make a pillow with visual interest from its texture, rather than it's color. 

This is the result. I'm still not sold on the whole room yet, probably becuase there are only two colors in it instead of my typical thirty-seven. But I'm thinking about letting it grow on me.

If you know me, you have probably been the reluctant recipient of one of my ill-fated scarf projects. Let me take this opportunity to apologize for that. OK, moving on.... I am happy to announce that my knitting skills have progressed to the point that I can now make things I'd actually want to wear! Here's a shot of my most recent accomplishment, which involved branching out into the world of cables- MUCH easier than I thought it would be. While I was buying the yarn from my favorite local yarn store, I got a great tip: instead of buying a cable needle (to make cables, you have to temporarily take a few stitches out of the mix, and a cable needle is designed specifically for this purpose) you can simply use the tapestry needle you have lying around (usually used to weave in ends when you've completed your piece). I got the pattern from this clever book, which had a ton of interesting projects. I love making things.

a timely how to: make your own planner for free

OK. Even my most diehard crafty friend has evolved past me into the age of the blackberry. It's a sad state of affairs. But if there's anyone out there who, like me, is waiting impatiently until their cell phone account is due for a technology update, this one's for you. Make your own 2010 planner!

Step 1. Obtain a blank book. I have tons of these lying around the house, but I always see enchanting ones on etsy.

Step 2. Use your wit and ingenuity to create your own planner design.

Step 3. Repeat. Over and over. Like fifty-two times. I won't lie- it's one of the most repetitive projects ever. On the plus side, you get to make your planner have all the bells and whistles that make it just perfect for what YOU need. For example, I'm always forgetting birthdays and other important dates, so I included brightly colored stickers as a place to write these reminders in a way that I simply can't miss them. I also like a lot of extra writing room for notes to self. Take that Franklin Covey.
